Open Access PolicyISTANBUL BEYKENT UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC OPEN ACCESS POLICYJUSTIFICATIONTo collect academic studies (articles, books/book chapters, theses, projects, reports, conference papers/presentations, technical documents, data sets, posters, video recordings, etc.) produced in printed and online means within Istanbul Beykent University and to create an Institutional Academic Open Access Archive System in accordance with open access standards within our university,To ensure that all academic publications produced at our University are collected, organised, stored for a long time, protected and made available in an open-access format to all national and international users through the Academic Archive,To make shared scientific publications available to the world scientific community in accordance with open-access standards,To ensure that scientific studies taken into account in appointments and promotions and other internal evaluations at our university are stored in the Institutional Academic Archives,To ensure that the academic publications of our universities are published as Open Access, the visibility of our university and therefore that of Türkiye at the academic level, and to obtain more support from the public and private sectors for new research projects.CONTEXTPublishing the academic studies of our University, established in 1997, as open access will make it possible to increase the visibility and recognition of these studies, and will allow more support from the public and private sectors for new research projects.For this reason, Istanbul Beykent University has decided to establish an open-access mechanism where the academic studies of its members can be delivered to the widest possible audience and an open-access archive that will serve accordingly. Istanbul Beykent University Library will play a strategic role in compiling the studies of university researchers in appropriate formats, preserving them in the long term and making them as widely available as possible.POLICY OBJECTIVESEnsuring the long-term compilation and preservation of academic studies produced within Istanbul Beykent University.To make the academic studies produced at Istanbul Beykent University accessible to the world as widely as possible.SCOPEAccording to the first article of the policy objectives, it covers all academic studies that are directly or indirectly supported by Istanbul Beykent University and carried out by its members. The works of the members of Istanbul Beykent University, which are conducted outside the university, can be stored in this archive if desired.According to the second article of the policy objectives, an open access platform should be developed so that publications such as scientific articles, papers, project reports, course materials and theses can be entered into the Istanbul Beykent University Open Archive, and these resources are presented to all stakeholders in a way that pays attention to copyrights.If the academic work of an Istanbul Beykent University member has been previously stored in a different open access archive, it can also be stored in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Access Archive.DEFINITIONSMembers of Istanbul Beykent University: In this text, Academicians, Staff, and Students of Istanbul Beykent University are named as “Members of Istanbul Beykent University”.Open Access: It refers to being able to access academic studies carried out by an Istanbul Beykent University Member online without paying a fee and encountering any obstacles. These works include peer-reviewed articles, theses, dissertations, proceedings, project outputs and open course materials that are eligible for publication in an academic journal.Academic Studies: It refers to all studies resulting from the research studies, funds received, and creative activities of Members of Istanbul Beykent University.Urgent Storage: It refers to the activity of storing a copy of academic studies in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Archive, provided that it is not later than the date of publication.Personal Archiving: It refers to the process that includes the storage of studies of Istanbul Beykent University Members, to which they make an intellectual contribution, to the Istanbul Beykent University Open Archive.Embargo: It means that the research results are not accessible for a certain period of time (6-12 months).PRINCIPLESMembers of Istanbul Beykent University accept the following conditions for the long-term compilation and preservation of their academic studies:The latest versions of all academic studies to which every Istanbul Beykent University member has made an intellectual contribution are stored in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Access Archive. Some individual studies that are limited or completely blocked due to conditions such as embargoes, etc., are excluded from this principle.Istanbul Beykent University Library works with members of Istanbul Beykent University, who archive their academic studies in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Archive, for proper publication as open access.Istanbul Beykent University Library coordinates the compilation and long-term preservation of all academic studies in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Archive with secure storage.Along with the conditions listed above, Istanbul Beykent University members agree to follow the below-mentioned processes in order to support the highest level of access to academic studies approved for publication in an academic journal.Storage: Each Istanbul Beykent University Member stores a digital copy of their article, which has been peer-reviewed and approved for publication in an academic journal, in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Access Archive, provided that it is not later than the publication date.Open Access/Selective Delayed Open Access: The author is encouraged to adjust the settings of the open access software used for the storage process by selecting “Immediate Submission to Open Access” in order to make their work available to the public immediately. Given the author’s agreements with publishers and personal archiving options, access to the studies will be organised under two headings.Public AccessOpen Access at the end of the embargo period (The embargo period will not exceed 12 (twelve) months.).Licensing: All Istanbul Beykent University Members agree that the work to which they have made an intellectual contribution will be publicly stored in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Archive to be operated by the Istanbul Beykent University Library in accordance with the principles of open distribution and preservation. In accordance with the legal conditions, all Istanbul Beykent University members consent to the storage of their works in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Archive with a non-monopolistic, irrevocable and globally valid licence agreement that does not violate the terms of the agreements made with the publishers. The approval of this policy is followed by the Rector or a responsible person assigned by him.Storage Responsibility in Multi-Author Studies: Members of Istanbul Beykent University can store their works prepared in collaboration with more than one author from more than one institution in the Istanbul Beykent University Open Archive. In multi-authored studies carried out by more than one member of Istanbul Beykent University, the lead author stores the source.For the effective implementation of this policy, the following conditions should be observed.The Rectorate of Istanbul Beykent University will be responsible for the implementation of this policy and will assume the executive role in resolving disputes that may arise when necessary and for any changes that may be made to the policy.The Rectorate of Istanbul Beykent University will lead the establishment of an Open Access Advisory Board and undertake the execution of this board.Beykent University Open Access Advisory BoardVice-RectorSenate RepresentativeFaculty MemberHead of Library and Learning Resources CentreThe Open Access Advisory Board will be obliged to evaluate this policy every year within the first three years following the entry into force of this policy and every three years following the end of these three years. The Board will be responsible for revising or amending the policy when deemed necessary. Suggestions and opinions will be submitted to the Rectorate of Istanbul Beykent University.
