Accessible Library

All of our libraries are equipped with tools and equipment to facilitate access for students with disabilities and the use of resources available in the library. An accessible elevator has been installed at our Ayazağa library. Other campuses also have elevators and ramps. Furthermore, at the Ayazağa, Beylikdüzü, Beylikdüzü Avalon, and Hadımköy libraries, computers exclusively for use by visually impaired students are available, along with relevant software and equipment.

Our library is an institutional member of Boğaziçi University Technology and Education Laboratory for the Visually Impaired (GETEM), which contains 40,000 audio works, 34,000 of which are audiobooks.

JAWS Screen Reading Programme

The computer on which the JAWS screen reading programme is installed becomes a usable computer for the visually impaired. This programme is an auxiliary tool that reads the text on the computer screen and provides information about what is happening on the screen.

Pearl & Openbook Camera Reading System

Pearl is widely used for both the visually impaired and partially sighted and is a product of Freedom Scientific, a company with a variety of products. With this technology, which instantly brings the distant or below-positioned text in front of us with a remote control in different colours, and also starts to read in human voice within seconds, all printed resources have been made accessible to our students with disabilities. If readers wish, they can take the book they want as an audiobook on CD or via USB drive.

Openbook is a software that scans books with various functions and turns them into audiobooks. The scanning process can be launched as single or multiple, and edits can be made on the scanned book chapters. After the scanning process is completed, the audio file can be listened to in mp3 format on computers or mobile devices.
